When should you call straight away?

Most dental complaints can wait for a normal appointment. These situations cannot.

Accident or trauma

A tooth knocked out, loosened or through the lip after a fall or blow? Call at once, here every minute counts.

Swelling with fever

A fast rising swollen cheek or swelling in your mouth, especially with fever, should not wait.

Pain that will not ease

Severe pain that keeps you awake and does not respond to an ordinary painkiller, have it assessed the same day.

Bleeding after a procedure

Bleeding that does not stop after ten minutes of firm pressure, report it by phone.

What dental symptoms are there?

When should I see a dentist about a dental complaint?

Make an appointment if pain lasts longer than a few days, if your gums bleed when brushing, if a tooth moves or stays sensitive, or if you see or feel something that does not clear up on its own. Even without pain a check-up is worthwhile, because many complaints start quietly.

What can I do myself about toothache?

Keep the area clean, rinse with lukewarm water if needed and use an ordinary painkiller according to the leaflet. This eases things for a while, but it does not remove the cause. If the toothache continues or a swelling appears, make an appointment. Read more on our page about toothache.

Which dental complaints are an emergency?

Call straight away after an accident in which a tooth is knocked out or loosened, with a fast rising swelling in your face or mouth, especially with fever, with severe pain that does not ease, and with bleeding that does not stop after a procedure. What to do then is on our emergency page.

Can I register at Tandarts West as a new patient?

Yes. Tandarts West is a KNMT registered practice at Taandersstraat 121 in Rotterdam West and takes on new patients, without a waiting list. You can register online. The practice is easy to reach by metro A, B and C via Coolhaven and Delfshaven and by tram 4 and 8.

What does treating a dental complaint cost?

The rates for dental care are set nationally by the Dutch Healthcare Authority, the NZa. What you pay depends on the treatment needed. For larger treatments we provide a written estimate in advance. You can find an overview on our rates page.
